Guilford took the series despite totalling just four extra-base hits in the three games.

Vic Aldridge threw a five-hit complete game in the opener to outduel Dixie Davis. Neither team scored until the ninth inning, when Rabbit Maranville led off with a walk. Aldridge bunted him to second, and Max Carey singled to put runners on first and third. Johnny Evers singled home Aldridge with Carey taking third, and Hank Greenberg plated Carey with a sac fly. That extra run was needed when Kiki Cuyler and Heine Manush started the bottom of the ninth with base hits; each moved up on a pair of groundouts, but Manush was stranded on third.

Guilford slapped Ernie Wingard around for six runs in the first six innings of the second game, climaxed by Greenberg's two-run homer in the sixth. Elmer Jacobs shut out the Orators through five innings, but Ortonville strung together four hits and a hit batter in the sixth to make it 6-3. Sheriff Blake allowed two runs in the seventh on two walks and a single as the Orators pulled to within a run, but Vic Keen tossed a perfect ninth to nail down the win.

The finale was all Ortonville. The Orators scored a pair of runs in the first inning off Ted Lyons, with Cuyler hitting a triple. Manush was thrown out at the plate by Carey to end the inning as he tried to score from first on Jim O'Rourke's double. Ortonville added three more in the second on three singles and a double. The Quakers couldn't dent Don Sutton until there were two outs in the ninth, when Maranville and pinch-hitter George Grantham hit back-to-back doubles and Carey singled home Grantham. Hub Pruett relieved but got no outs: Evers and Greenberg singled for a run, and Larry Doby walked to fill the bases. Elam Vangilder entered with the tying run on base and popped up Tony Perez, who went hitless for the series.

Pitcher availability: For the Quakers, Sheriff Blake pitched two innings in each of the last two games and should sit at least one game. Guy Bush is still out one game. All other Guilford relievers are fully rested. For the Orators, Vangilder has faced one hitter in each of the last two games; he's available for their next game. Pruett faced three hitters and will be regarded as having pitched an inning. All other Ortonville relievers are fully rested.

The Polo Grounds was a sluggers paradise as the two teams combined for 48 runs and 25 extra-base hits (including seven homers) in the three-game series.

The first game set the tone early, with the visiting Rams scoring three runs in the first inning. Hugh McQuillan left without getting an out in the fourth inning, by which time he had surrendered 12 hits. He was charged with nine runs, six of them earned. Elmer Flick scored three times and Phil Rizzuto, Earle Combs and Joe Sewell twice apiece. Rizzuto also drove in four runs.

Raymond held a 6-0 lead going into the bottom of the fourth inning of the second game, with Rizzuto driving in three of the tallies. But Fordham got one in the bottom of the fourth and four more in the fifth. Flick's two-run double opened the Rams' lead to 8-5 after six innings, but Nellie Fox's error in the bottom of the eighth helped the Flashes score four times off Earl Whitehill to take the lead, and Claude Jonnard threw a perfect ninth to secure the comeback win. Joe Medwick had three doubles for the winners; he drove in three. Fred Lindstrom scored three times. For the Rams, Combs had four runs and Frank Chance three.

The opener was an easy win for Lincoln Park. The two teams exchanged sac flies in the second inning, but the Black Caps scored twice in the third off Jim Palmer and two more in the sixth, one of them when Palmer was called for a balk with the bases loaded. Verdell Mathis went seven innings, allowing two runs on seven hits and no walks. Art Pennington was 4-for-5 with a homer, a double, two runs and two RBIs.

Frank Robinson's two run homer in the fourth inning gave the Orioles a 2-0 lead in the second game. Chico Salmon hit a pinch-hit shot in the eighth to make the score 3-1. Buck O'Neil tripled home two runs in the top of the ninth off Eddie Watt to tie the game, but the Orioles got three singles and a sac fly from Mark Belanger off Andy Cooper in the bottom of the inning for the win.

The finale was a back-and-forth affair. Lincoln Park scored two in the first inning off Dave McNally' Baltimore got one back in the bottom of the inning. Alec Radcliff and Spoony Palm hit solo homers in the third and fourth innings for a 4-1 lead. Boog Powell got the Orioles to within one run with a two-run homer off starter Rube Currie in the fifth, and Frank Robinson tied it with a solo homer off Bill Drake in the seventh. Salmon had a pinch-hit double off Hilton Smith in the eighth and scored on Don Buford's double to give the Orioles the lead, but in the top of the ninth pinch hitter Vic Harris singled off Watt, Bonnie Serrell doubled and Neil Robinson tied it with a sac fly.
