Colorado won all three games in Coors Field to power past the 1924 Cleveland Indians.

Game One was a rout. Nolan Arenado hit a two-run homer in the first inning, and the Rox batted around in the fourth and seventh innings. Trevor Story had a bases loaded triple and drove in four in total. Arenado went 4-for-5, drove in three and scored three. Jon Gray threw seven scoreless innings.

The Rockies had another bat-around inning in Game Two. The Indians took an early 3-0 lead, but the Rox plated four in the fourth off Stan Covaleski, highlighted by a two-run pinch single by Raimel Tapia, and got two more in the fifth when Carlos Gonzalez hit a two-run homer. Tyler Anderson threw two scoreless innings to get credit for the win.

The series shifted to Cleveland's more pitching-friendly Dunn Field  for Game Three. The Rockies broke a 1-1 game open in the sixth with four straight hits, including two doubles, off loser Sherry Smith. The inning might have been bigger, but Cleveland right fielder Homer Summa gunned down Gonzalez at the plate to end the inning.

The Tribe staved off elimination in Game Four behind George Uhle and Shaute, who provided two scoreless innings of relief on three days rest. George Burns hit a three-run homer and drove in four, while Riggs Stephenson had three RBIs. Tris Speaker (3-for-4) scored three runs. Three of the five runs allowd by Uhle were unearned.

Covaleski had the series best start in Game Five; the spitballer went the distance, allowing six hits. Both runs he allowed reached base by error. Speaker homered in the third and Charlie Jamieson hit a two-run single in the seventh to break the tie.

The series returned to Coors Field, and the Tribe booted their chances away in the eighth. Leading 6-4 behind Shaute, Cleveland committed three errors with two outs and allowed three runs in the process. Anderson, the fifth Colorado pitcher, picked up the win with a scoreless top of the eighth. All told, five of the Rockies runs were unearned.

Projected rotation for Round Two: Gray-Marquez-Freeland-Chatwood-(Gary or Senzatela)-(Marquez-Gray)-(Freeland-Marquez-Gray). Gray gets a second start only in an elimination game.
