The Jays almost matched the Bomba squad in homers but couldn't keep up in total runs; the Twins scored 15 more in the six games.

Game One in Target Field set the high-scoring tone. The visiting Blue Jays scored four unearned runs over the final two innings as Miguel Sano committed a pair of errors at first base behind Sergio Romo and loser Martin Perez. Vernon Wells scored four runs and Jose Bautista three while Travis Snider and Rod Barajas each drove in a pair at the bottom of the Toronto order did a lot of damage.

Jorge Polanco's bottom of the 11th grand slam evened the series and made a winner of Taylor Rodgers, who worked three perfect innings with six strikeouts. Barajas drove in the two Toronto runs with a double and homer off Michael Pineda. 

Max Kepler homered to lead off  Game Three in Rogers Centre. Lyle Overbay and Edwin Encarncion hit back-to-back homers in the second to even the score at 2. But in the fourth the Twins pummeled Scott Richmond for a pair of doubles and a two-run homer by Ehire Adrianaza. Nelson Cruz hit a solo homer in the fifth. Jake Odorizzi went 7.1 innings for the win. Encarncion hit a second solo homer in the ninth for the Jays.

Kyle Gibson took a shutout into the seventh inning of Game Four, by which time the Twins had built a 9-0 lead. Polanco hit a three-run homer in the third off Brian Tallet. Aaron Hill hit a grand slam in the seventh off Tyler Duffey for the Toronto runs. Perez finished the game for Minnesota with two perfect innings.

The Jays kept the series alive with a 15-inning win in Game Five. Adam Lind hit a three-run homer off Duffey in the bottom of the 15th after Jason Frasor (two innings) and Shawn Camp (four innings) combined to retire the final 18 Twins hitters. Ryne Harper had a remarkable escape in the 14th; after Vernon Wells singled and Overbay doubled, the Twins walked Encarncion intentionally to load the bases with no outs. Harper then struck out Bautista, Snider and Barajas.

The series returned to Target Field for Game Six. Toronto scored an unearned run off Pineda in the first, but the Twins scored two in the bottom of the inning and led the rest of the way. Marwin Gonzalez and Max Kepler each drove in a pair of runs in the sixth as the Twins scored five runs off loser Ricky Romero and Scott Downs. Mitch Garver capped the game with a two-run homer in the eighth. 

Player availablity: Miguel Sano is out through Game Four for the next round and may be deactivated. The Twins bullpen will be fully rested for the opener.

Toronto pummeled Cincinnati pitching for 40 runs in the five games -- and that includes a shutout.

Rod Barajas hit a two-run homer in the third inning of the opener in Cincinnati's Great American Park, and Roy Halladay struck out 10 in seven innings for the win. Travis Snider scored a pair of runs for Toronto. which scored five runs on just six hits.

Kevin Millar pinch-hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning of Game Two to put the Blue Jays ahead for good.All eight of Toronto's runs came on two-run homers -- Scott Rolen in the first, Lyle Overbay in the third, Millar in the fifth and Vernon Wells in the sixth. Jesse Carlson allowed one run in two innings of relief and was credited with the win. Josh Roenicke worked the final three innings for the save, allowing one hit and retiring the final seven men.

The series moved to Toronto for Game Three, and the Jays put up seven runs without a long ball. A bases-loaded, two-out error by the usually reliable Jose Iglesias allowed the first Toronto run to score in the fourth, and Marco Scutaro and Scott Rolen followed with singles to plate three more runs. Loser Sonny Gray was charged with seven runs in 4.3 innings, three of them earned. Scutaro totaled four RBIs for the game.

The Reds staved off elimination with a four-pitcher shutout in Game Four. Tanner Roark worked the first 5.1 innings and got the win. David Hernandez induced a double-play grounder from Vernon Wells to end the sixth and followed with a perfect seventh, and Robert Stevenson and Rasiel Inglesias each pitched an inning. Loser Brian Tallet allowed two runs in six innings. 

Roy Halladay and Luis Castillo are an unlikely pairing of pitchers for a slugfest, but that's how Game Five worked out. Castillo didn't retire a man in the first inning, leaving after Overbay clubbed a two-run homer to make the score 5-0. Hernandez, who had been unscored upon for the tournament, allowed another pair of runs before escaping the inning, and Lucas Sims was blasted for six more runs in the second and third innings, including homers by Overbay and Aaron Hill. Halladay, blessed with a 13-0 lead after three innings, began to leak -- two runs in the fourth, two in the fifth, another in the sixth, his final frame. Casey Janssen allowed another run in the seventh, and the Reds added four more in the eighth. But Overbay and Wells had RBI doubles in the bottom of the inning as the Jays matched the four runs, and Shawn Camp had a 1-2-3 ninth to end it.

The Blue Jays won the final three games to knock off the favored Indians despite behind outscored in the series. 

Francisco Lindor hit a grand slam in the Progressive Field opener to pin the Game One loss on Roy Halladay. The star shortstop's blast capped a five-run fifth inning. Trevor Bauer allowed one run in seven innings, but in a sign of things to come, the Cleveland bullpen allowed four runs over the final two innings to make the final score close.

Toronto evened the series on Travis Snider's 11th-inning homer off Carlos Carrasco. Cleveland led 6-4 after seven innings, but Toronto worked a run off Hunter Wood and Brad Hand in the eighth, then tied it in the ninth on Aaron Hill's homer off Hand. The Indians used seven pitchers in the game. Mike Freeman, playing second base for the injured Jason Kipnis, homered twice and both scored and drove in three runs.

The Indians made themselves comfortable in Game Three in Rogers Centre, routing the Jays 14-0. Tyler Naquin had five hits, including three doubles, and scored four times. Lindor had five hits, scored three runs and drove in three. Jason Luplow homered, double and scored three runs. Roberto Perez scored three runs and homered. Shane Bieber worked the first six innings, allowing three hits, for the win.

Aaron Civale started another multi-pitcher shutout in Game Four. He went 5.1 innings, allowing four hits and no walks with six strikeouts. Tyler Clippard, Nick Goody, Nick Wittgren and Hand divvied up the final 11 outs, with one hit allowed by Goody. Carlos Santana hit a solo homer for Cleveland.

Roy Halladay sent the series back to Cleveland with a four-hit shutout in Game Five. Adam Lind and Jose Bautista hit solo homers off Bauer, who also went the distance. Halladay faced just three men over the minimum.

Cleveland led Game Six 5-2 after four innings. But Adam Plutko got only one out in the fifth and left with the bases loaded. Adam Cimber got Hill to ground out, with a run scoring, and then Vernon Wells hit a three-run homer to put the Jays in front 6-5. Lind hit a two-run double off Carrasco in the sixth, which widened the margin enough that Lindor's homer in the ninth off Scott Downs didn't matter much.

Jake Bauers' homer gave Cleveland ace Shane Bieber a two-run lead in the second inning of Game Seven, but Lind tied it with a homer of his own in the third and put the Jays ahead with a solo shot in the sixth. The Indians evened it with run in the bottom of the inning off Brian Tallet, and then both teams went to their bullpens. Marco Scutaro homered leading off the eighth of Wittgren, and Lyle Overbay homered leading off the ninth against Oliver Perez. Meanwhile Cleveland got no hits and just one harmless walk agains the Toronto trio of Josh Roeniecke, Carlson and Jason Frasor. Carlson got the win, Frasor the save.

Player availablity: With the day off, the Toronto bullpen will be fully available for the beginning of Round Three

The Cubs led at the end on only two innings of the four games, the fifth and sixth innings of Game Two, as the Jays outscored them 35-6 in the series.

The Jays got off to a strong start in the Wrigley Field opener. Scott Rolen and Vernon Wells hit back-to-back two-out doubles in the first off John Lester, and Jose Bautista hit a two-run homer in the second. Wells hit a three-run homer off Pedro Strop in the seventh; Wells had three hits and four RBIs. Roy Halladay allowed one run on seven hits in 6.2 innings for the win.

Kris Bryant homered to lead off the fifth inning of Game Two and added an RBI groundout in the sixth, which gave Chicago a 4-2 lead against Ricky Romero. But Derek Holland, relieving Kyle Hendrick, allowed a single and a walk before giving way to Strop, who promptly surrendered an RBI double to Rod Barajas and a three-run pinch-hit homer to Edwin Encarancion. Adam Lind hit two homers and drove in six runs in the final two innings as the Jays punished Steve Cishek, Craig Kimbrel and Kyle Wick.

The series shifted to 2009 and the retractable dome of Rogers Centre. Brian Tallet, Josh Roenicke and Shawn Camp combined for a four-hit shutout of the visiting Cubs. Travis Snider doubled in two runs in the second off loser Yu Darvish

The Jays wrapped up the series in Game Four, with Barajas hitting a two-run homer in the second, Adam Hill a two-run homer in the seventh and Encarncion a solo shot in the eighth. Scott Richmond carried a shutout in the seventh with the aid of three double plays turned by the Jays infield.
