The Braves made quick work of this battle for the beer and cheese, outscoring the Brewers 23-12 over the five games. Joe Adcock by himself hit as many homers as the entire Brewers team.

Warren Spahn went the distance in the opener, played in 1961's County Stadium. Domingo Santana homered in the first for the Brew Crew, but Adcock hit a two-run homer off Kyle Davies in the fourth, and that concluded the scoring. Spahn allowed four hits and one walk.

The Brewers won the second game in extra innings, with pinch-hitter Eric Sogard leading off the top of the 10th with a base hit and eventually scoring on Travis Shaw's fly ball. The Brewers got four scoreless innings from relievers Jared Hughes, Josh Hader and Corey Knebel after Matt Garza went six innings, allowing two runs on four hits. Lew Burdette went nine innings for the Braves and allowed the tying homer to Santana in the eighth.

The series moved forward 56 years and a few hundred feet east to Miller Park for Game Three. The Braves started Bob Buhl, but hit for him after four innings. Pinch-hitter Mack Jones delivered a two-run, game-tying double, and Tony Cloninger and Bob Hendley followed with two scoreless innings apiece. Meanwhile. Joe Adcock hit three homers to give the Braves a 9-3 lead. The Brewers plated three runs off Claude Raymond and Moe Drabowsky before Don McMahon entered with two on and two outs in the ninth to get the final out.

Hank Aaron and Lee Maye hit homers in Game Four, and Carl Willey went six innings for the win. Don Nottebart allowed one hit in three innings for the save.

Spahn wrapped up the series with another complete game in Game Five, allowing an unearned run on four hits and three walks. Joe Torre's three-run homer in the seventh provided plenty of breathing room.

Milwaukee won three games on the road to eliminate the 1961 National League pennant winners.

Cincinnati's Joey Jay dominated the visiting Brewers in the opener in Crosley Field, allowing two hits while striking out 10. Gordy Coleman homered to open the scoring in the second inning for the Reds, and he, Frank Robinson and Johnny Edwards each drove in two runs.

Neil Walker hit a grand slam in the fifth inning of the second game as the Brewers evened the series. Walker also had a two-run double in the seventh. Travis Shaw, Domingo Santana and Marcus Thames each scored a pair of runs.

Travis Shaw homered with two outs in the bottom of the 10th of Game 3 to give the Brewers the win in 2017's Miller Park. Robinson homered in the ninth off Milwaukee closer Corey Knebel to send the game to extras.

The Reds rebounded in Game 4, plating eight runs on nine hits in the final three innings to make a winner of reliever Howie Nunn. Brent Suter, the winner of Game Three, took the loss.

Jay again held the Brewers in check in Game 5. He allowed a two-run homer to Santana in the fourth, but the Brewer got just four other hits in the game. The Reds scored four runs in the first and were never challenged. Eddie Kasko went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs for Cincinnati.

The series returned to Crosley Field, and the Brewers took immediate control of Game 6 to even the series. Milwaukee got three runs in the first on two doubles and a triple and added two more in the second off Bob Purkey. Keon Broxton homered twice and doubled for four RBIs. Santana drove in three and Shaw two. Robinson had a pair of doubles with two runs in a 3-for-4 performance for the losers.

The Brewers took the decisive Game Seven as four pitchers combined for a five-hit shutout. Chase Anderson worked the first six innings, and Jacob Barnes, Anthony Swarzak and Jeremy Jeffress each faced the minimum. Jesus Aguliar hit a three-run homer in the ninth off Bill Henry to give the Brewers a comfortable cushion.

Milwaukee scored at least six runs in each game to overpower Seattle.

The Brewers opened Game One in Miller Park with a three-run first and essentially put the game away with four unearned runs in the third inning. Fernando Villar drove in three runs for the Brewers and Travis Shaw scored three times.

Game Two featured star closers blowing leads. It was scoreless after seven innings (James Paxon for the M's, Jimmy Nelson for the Brew Crew) until Nelson Cruz hit a solo homer in the eighth for Seattle. The Brewers responded with two in the bottom of the inning, getting hits off three different Seattle relievers, and brought in Corey Knebel for the save op. But Keon Broxton muffed a fly in center to set up two unearned runs that put the visitors in the lead. Edwin Diaz in turn surrendered a solo homer to Broxton n the bottom of the inning to even the score. After Josh Hader threw a perfect 10th, James Pazos failed to get an out in the bottom of the frame, with Travis Shaw hitting a three-run homer.

The series shifted to Seattle and Safeco Field, where Milwaukee's Chase Anderson allowed five hits in seven scoreless innings. Eric Thames and Ryan Braun hit back-to-back homers in the eighth for the visitors.

Milwaukee wrapped it up with a quick demolition of "King Felix" Hernandez in Game Four, peppering Hernandez for six runs on nine hits in 3.6 innings. Matt Garza allowed two runs in five innings, and the Brewer bullpen allowed just one hit and one walk over the final four innings. Pazos struck out seven men in a 2.1 inning relief stint for Seattle.
