The Nationals hit 15 homers in the seven games and won all three games in Washington to reach the finals.

Los Angeles took Game One at home, scoring four runs in the third inning off Max Scherzer. Yasmani Grandal and Curtis Granderson hit consecutive doubles in that rally. The Nats hit four homers, but only one came with a man on base.

Chase Utley's two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth won Game Two for the Dodgers. Utley's blast off Washington closer Sean Doolittle followed the Nationals taking the lead in the top of the inning with an unearned run off Kenley Jansen.

The series moved East to Washington for a Game Three slugfest. Consecutive doubles by Anthony Rendon and Daniel Murphy knocked Alex Wood out of the game in the fifth inning. But Gio Gonzalez didn't last much longer, and Chris Taylor tied it with a solo homer in the seventh off Brandon Kintzler. But the Nationals racked three Dodger pitchers for seven runs in the eighth, with Michael A. Taylor and Matt Wieters hitting consecutive homers off Josh Fields and Bryce Harper a two-run shot off Tony Watson.

Stephen Strasburg allowed one run in 6.2 innings in Game Four, striking out 12. The Nats scored three in the third off Yu Darvish and added another in the fifth. Matt Grace threw two scoreless inning to wrap it up.

Scherzer went eight innings for the win in Game Five, allowing a solo homer to Granderson in the third but just two other singles. Brian Goodwin cracked the game open with a two-run pinch-hit double as the Nats scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth.

Facing elimination in their home park in Game Six, the Dodgers pinch hit for starter Rich Hill in the fourth inning with a 1-0 lead. Joc Pederson made the move pay off with a grand-slam off Tanner Roark. The Dodger bullpen wasn't brilliant, but it got 15 outs without giving up the lead.

Which set up Game Seven. Murphy homered in the second off Alex Wood, and Gio Gonzalez held the 1-0 lead into the seventh. With two on and two out, Ryan Madson relieved to retire Chris Taylor. Michael Taylor hit a two-run homer off Pedro Baez to extend the lead to 3-0. Kintzler gave up an unearned run in the eighth and got the first two hitters of the ninth before giving way to Doolittle, who retired Utley to wrap up the series.

The Phillies unlikely run through the tourney ran out of steam against the Dodgers.

Clayton Kershaw threw six shutout innings in the Dodger Stadium opener. and Justin Turner homered and scored twice for the Dodgers. Cameron Rupp homered off Pedro Baez and scored the other Phillies run off closer Kenley Jansen in the ninth. Kershaw allowed three hits and two walks.

The Dodgers tagged Jarad Eickhoff for five runs in the first inning of Game Two, with doubles by Corey Seager, Yasiel Puig, Yasmani Grandal and Joc Pederson. All five runs were unearned. Kenta Maeda allowed two runs in six innings for the win, and Ross Stripling worked three scoreless frames for the save.

The series moved to Philadelphia for Game Three, and the Dodgers again broke out big in the first inning with three runs off Aaron Nola, capped by a Puig homer. But the Phillies got solo homers in each of the first three innings off Hyun-Jin Ryu to even the score. After the Dodgers hit for Ryu, Sergio Romo entered, and the Phillies teed off on him for five runs, and the Dodgers could not catch up.

Game Four opened with another crooked number for the Dodgers, a three-spot hung on Vince Velasquez highlighted by back-to-back homers by Turner and Cody Bellinger. Bellinger hit a three-run homer in the second inning. That was all the runs the Dodgers got, but it was more than they needed. Brandon McCarthy went seven innings for the win, allowing one run on two hits.

Bellinger's ninth-inning two-run homer off Adam Morgan in Game Five broke a 2-2 tie and gave Jansen a lead to hold. Josh Field vultured the win after giving up a game-tying homer in the eighth to pinch-hitter Michael Saunders. Kershaw allowed one run in seven innings for the no-decision.

It took seven games -- and extra innings in that finale -- but the heavily favored Dodgers held off the underdog White Sox.

The Dodgers battered Sloppy Thurston for six runs in the first inning of the opener at Chavez Ravine, with Logan Forsythe driving the White Sox workhorse from the hill with a three-run homer. But Clayton Kershaw couldn't hold that lead as the Sox scored eight times in the fifth, with Willie Kamm and Bill Barrett hitting back-to-back homers. The Chicago bullpen allowed three runs in 8.6 innings.

Los Angeles repeated the first-inning hit fest in Game Two, plating five tallies off Ted Lyons without benefit of an extra base hit. Alex Wood didn't repeat Kershaw's collapse, although he did surrender a pair of runs in the fourth and left the bases loaded. Wood went six innings, allowing five hits, for the win.

The series shifted to Comiskey Park and 1924 for Game Three, and Red Fazber continued his scintillating tournament. The spitballer went eight innings, allowing one run on three hits, and carried a no-hitter into the sixth. Earl Sheely had five RBIs for Chicago with a pair of doubles, and Harry Hooper scored three times. Johnny Mostil capped the scoring with a three-run homer.

The Dodgers again evened the series in Game Four with a late-inning comeback. Thurston carried a 3-2 lead into the eighth, but Cody Bellinger tripled in the tying run and scored the go-ahead run on a sac fly. The Dodgers beat up on a weary Thornton in the ninth and did even more damage when Leo Magnum relieved. Curtis Granderson hit a grand slam off  Magnum to cap the nine-run outburst.

Lyons got the ball for Game Five after his abbreviated start in Game 2 and threw a gem, scattering seven hits and holding the Dodgers scoreless. Sheely and Barrett each homered in the fourth off Kershaw to tag the Dodger ace with another loss.

The Dodger limped back home facing elimination, but Wood and Corey Seager came through in Game Six. Seager hit a three-run homer to cap a four-run fourth, and Wood again allowed just two runs in six frames.

That set up Game Seven. Thornton allowed a run in the first on a Seager triple and Bellinger single, and the Sox tied it in the third on Mostil's successful squeeze bunt. Barrett singled home the go-ahead run for the Sox in the sixth, and Thornton held that lead until Granderson doubled in Puig from first in the eighth. The Grandy Man came through one more time in the 10th. After Thornton got the first two hitters, Yasmani Grandal singled and Granderson followed with the series-clinching homer.

The Dodger bullpen will be rested for the fourth round.

The Los Angeles pitchers muted the Philadelphia bats, casting a pair of shutouts.

Game One, in Dodger Stadium, was a duel between aces Eddie Rommel and Clayton Kershaw. Kershaw went seven innings, allowing two runs on five hits; the Athletics first run scored on a balk, and the the other on a ground out. Rommel went nine innings, scattering nine hits and surrendering two runs. Dodger relievers Pedro Baez, Kenley Jansen and Tony Watson each threw a hitless inning, and in the bottom of the 10th A's reliever Sam Grey allowed two walks and two hits to plate the decisive run..

The second game was all Dodgers. Rich Hill, Brandon Morrow, Tony Cigrani and Ross Stripling combined for a seven-hit shutout, with Hill going five innings.

The series shifted to 1924 and Philadelphia, and the Dodgers rode a five-run fifth to the win in Game Three. Justin Turner drove in three runs; he went 2-for-2 with a homer, two walks and a sac fly. Kneta Maeda threw seven innings for the win, allowing three runs on six hits.

The Athletics staved off elimination in Game Four, overcoming a 3-0 deficit after the first inning. Joe Hauser and Chick Galloway each homered in the A's three-run sixth to take the lead. Dennis Burns threw three scoreless innings of relief to keep the game close, and Sam Gray allowed one run in three-plus innings for the win, with Slim Harris getting the final three outs after Gray allowed the first two men to reach in the ninth.

Kershaw threw a three-hit shutout in Game Five to wrap up the series for the Dodgers. The lefty drove in the first two runs for L.A. with a second-inning double, and Turner and Yasiel Puig added homers.

In a series of power hitters and power pitchers, three of the Yankees four wins came on home runs in their final at-bats.

Sandy Koufax dominated Game One in new Yankee Stadium, striking out 13 in 7.2 innnings, including seven in a row from the second through fourth innings. Koufax allowed four hits and three walks but was relieved after loading the bases with two outs in the eighth. Larry Sherry struck out three of the four men he faced for the save.

The Yankees bats awoke in Game Two. Gary Shanchez drove in six runs with a three-run homer and three-run triple. Aaron Judge hit a three-run homer and Didi Gregorius hit a two-run shot. Tommy Kahnle fanned both hitters he faced to get out of a fifth-inning jam created by starter CC Sabathia and was credited with the win.

The series shifted to 1961 and the misshapen L.A. Memorial Coliseum, and the two teams combined for 10 homers in Game Three. The Dodgers took a 9-8 lead into the ninth, but with two outs and one one defensive sub Daryl Spencer booted a grounder, and Sanchez followed with a three-run homer off Ron Perranoski. It was Sanchez's second homer of the game. Charley Neal also homered twice. Chasen Shreve, who got a double play from the only hitter he faced, was the winner.

Johnny Podres allowed a solo homer to Sanchez in Game Four but otherwise keeping the visitors off the scoreboard. Podres drove in three runs himself with a pair of singles and allowed eight hits in eight innings.

Koufax was again dominant in Game Five -- until the eighth inning. He had allowed just two hits in seven innings, one a homer by Sanchez. But in the eighth he walked Aaron Hicks and allowed a single to Starlin Castro. One out later, Sanchez hit another homer and turned a 3-1 L.A. lead into a 4-3 N.Y. lead, and Arodis Chapman threw a perfect ninth to save it for Chad Green.

The series returned to 2017 and New York. Frank Howard and Junior Gilliam each homered off Sabathia to stake Stan Williams to an early lead, but Matt Holliday homered to narrow the gap and brought home the tying run with a double play grounder in the seventh. And in the bottom of the ninth, Ron Perranoski hit Todd Frazier with a pitch, and Castro followed with a series-cliching walkoff homer.

The havily favored Dodgers held the punchless Braves to seven runs in the four-game sweep.

The first game, in Dodger Stadium, was quite the pitchers duel. Jesse Barnes allowed two unearned runs in seven innings, set up by Johnny Cooney's two-base error in right field; Barnes walked none and struck out five. Clayton Kershaw allowed one run in 7.6 innings; Pedro Baez got the last out of the eighth and Kenley Jansen fanned the side in the ninth.

Game Two was a rout, with Los Angeles scoring at least two runs in five innings. Casey Stengel's two-run homer in the third gave the Braves a short-lived lead, but the Dodgers hit six doubles, a pair of triples and one homer (Joc Pederson). The Dodgers hit for the cycle in the eighth inning against reliever Tim McNamera.

The series moved to Boston and Braves Field for another pitchers duel. Two-way player Johnny Cooney went the distance for the Braves for the loss and drove in both Boston runs at the plate. The Los Angeles bullpen worked four innings, allowing one run.

Rube Marquard took the hill for Boston in Game Four but didn't live up to his Hall of Fame credentials. The Dodgers drove him from the hill in the third inning. Chris Taylor hit a solo homer and Yasiel Puig a two-run triple in that inning.
