Monday's games:
Chicago (Peters) at Seattle (Brunet)
California (May) at Philadelphia (Fryman)
Cleveland (Hargan) at San Diego (Santorini)

Montreal 4, Kansas City 3: The Expos rallied for three runs in the eighth inning to overtake the Royals. Ty Cline, Ron Fairly, Rusty Staub and Mack Jones had consecutive hits to open the inning off K.C. starter and loser Dick Drago and reliever Steve Jones. Don Shaw got the win with a scoreless inning of relief, and Roy Face tossed a 1-2-3 ninth for the save.

Chicago 4, Seattle 0: Joel Horlen allowed just five hits in ending the Pilots' five-game winning streak. He walked one and struck out 10. Losing pitcher Gene Brabender took a no-hitter into the sixth, when Luis Aparicio beat out a grounder to third and took third on Tommy Harper's throwing error; he then scored on Gail Hopkins' sac fly. Brabender allowed just three hits in eight innings himself; the White Sox scored three in the top of the ninth off Jim Bouton. Tommy Harper (Pilots) was injured and must sit Monday's game.

Cleveland 4, San Diego 3 (10 innings): Tony Horton's leadoff homer in the top of the 10th capped the Indians' comeback from a pair of two-run deficits. Joe Niekro had allowed just one run in eight innings (10 hits allowed) before turning a 3-1 lead over to the San Diego bullpen, but a pair of doubles and a throwing error by Jose Arcia allowed Cleveland to tie the game in the ninth. Max Alvis was 4-for-5 for Cleveland. Larry Burchart got the win with a scoreless inning of relief, and Ron Law picked up the save. Al Ferrara (Padres) was injured for 8 days; he will be replaced on the active roster by Jerry Morales and is eligible to return for games of May 8.

Philadelphia 8, California 4: Don Money's three-run homer highlighted the Phillies' six-run second inning and carried them past the Angels. Jerry Johnson allowed three runs, two earned, in eight innings for the win; at one point he retired 14 straight hitters. Money had four RBIs for the Phillies and Dick Allen scored twice. Larry Hisle (Phillies) was injured for three days; he will remain on the roster.

Player of the Day: Joel Horlen, White Sox
