Arizona outhomered the Giants 11-2 in the five games.
Zach Greinke and three relievers combined for a five hit shutout in the opener in Chase Field. Carson Kelly homered and doubled twice, scoring two runs.
Kelly homered again in Game Two, this one a pinch-hit shot off Giants closer Will Smith leading off the ninth to tie the contest. Nick Ahmed followed with a single. He moved to second on a wild pitch and scored the game-winner on a two-out single by Ketel Marte. Christian Walker hit a two-run homer in the eighth to pull the Diamondbacks within a run.
The series moved to San Francisco for Game Three, and the Giants got a strong outing from Tyler Beebe (one run in five innings) and four shutout frames from relieves Shawn Anderson and Sam Dyson. Mike Yastrzemski hit a three-run homer off Merrill Kelly in the fourth to account for all three runs for the Giants.
Marte and Nick Ahmed each hammered a pair of homers in Game Fout for Arizona. David Peralta homered, doubled, singled, drove in three and scored twice for the Snakes. Ahmed drove in five runs in all. Wilmer Flores and Jake Lamb each doubled twice for Arizona.
Greinke did the bulk of the work as the Diamondbacks wrapped up the series in Game Five. Not only did he toss five scoreless innings before weakening in the sixth, he hit a two-run homer off Madison Bumgarner to begin the scoring. The Diamondbacks went through four relievers after Greinke was pulled, but none of them allowed a run.
Player availability: Arizona will be fully rested for the second round
Projected rotation: Greinke-Ray-Kelly-Gullen-(Greinke)-(Ray)-(Kelly)
