Montreal 8, St. Louis 0: Steve Rogers threw a four-hit shutout and Tim Foli and Bob Bailey hit back-to-back homers in the first inning as the Expos overpowered Alan Foster and the Cardinals. Pepe Mangual hit a three-run blast in the eighth off Ed Sprague to blow the game open. Rogers walked five and fanned three.
New York 6, Houston 3: John Milner clubbed a three-run homer in the third and Tom Seaver struck out five Astros in a row en route to eight in his complete game win. Bud Harrelson drove in a pair of runs. Tom Griffin took the loss.
Chicago 6, Atlanta 5: Randy Hundley's three-run homer in the eighth vaulted the Cubs back into the lead, and Jim Aker retired Darrell Evans and Henry Aaron with the tying run on third in the ninth inning. Winning pitcher Rick Reuschel carried a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh, but Evans hit a three-run homer with two outs to put the Braves ahead. Atlanta reliever Ron Reed quickly gave that lead away. Aker gave up a solo homer in the eighth but worked around a single and an error in the ninth.
Philadelphia 5, Pittsburgh 3: Tom Hutton's two-run homer in the eighth off John Morlan broke a 3-3 tie after Ken Brett squandered a 3-0 lead. Denny Doyle had a pair of RBI singles for the Phillies. but also committed an error that allowed the Pirates' first run in the sixth inning. Brett was the winner, Morlan the loser and George Culver pitched the ninth for the save.
