Paul bracket: 1969 Cleveland Indians defeat 2009 Atlanta Braves in six games

Walks did not haunt. Cleveland issued 35 walks in the six games to 14 by Atlanta, but still prevailed.

Game One: Indians 8, Braves 3: Cleveland profited from a pair of Atlanta errors for three unearned runs and got homers in the ninth inning from Ken Harrelson and Duke Sims. Sam McDowell walked four men in the first three innings, then found the strike zone until wearying in the eighth. Horacio Pena got the final four outs, three on strikeouts, for the save.

Game Two: Braves 8, Indians 0: Jarr Jurrjens allowed just one hit in his six innings, and the Atlanta bullpen completed the shutout despite allowing a pair of safeties . Luis Tiant shut out the Braves for four innings, but then he and the Cleveland bullpen were deluged by six walks and eight hits (and two errors) in the next four innings.

Game Three: Indians 11, Braves 6: Cleveland plaed three runs in the first inning and turned it into a rout with six more runs in the sixth. Chipper Jones drove in four runs on a pair of homers, a solo shot in the first and a three-run homer in Atlanta's four-run ninth.

Game Four: Indians 4, Braves 0: Dick Ellsworth went seven innings, allowing four hits and five walks without surrendering a run -- and added a single and run scored to boot. Larry Brown keyed a three-run rally in the fifth with an RBI double. Mike Paul entered with two on in the eight and got the final four outs for the save.

Game Five: Braves 3, Indians 0: Javier Vazquez staved off elimination with eight innings for three-hit ball. The Braves got four walks from McDowell in eight innings and three more in the ninth off Ron Law.

Game Six: Indians 7, Braves 2: Tiant walked eight and struck out eight in eight four-hit innings. He also hit a solo homer and drove in another run with a single. Tony Horton had a pair of homers and totalled three RBIs.

Projected innings: McDowell-Williams-Tiant-Ellsworth or Hargan-(McDowell)-(Williams)-(Tiant). The bullpen will be fully available for Game One
