Chicago 10, Montreal 6: Milt Pappas hit a grand slam and pitched into the seventh inning for the win. Pappas gave up six runs on 12 hits, but that was good enough. Ron Santo also homered for the Cubs and drove in three runs. Balor Moore took the loss. Mike Jorgensen had three hits and stole two bases.
Chicago 5, Montreal 2: Ferguson Jenkins held the Expos scoreless through eight innings and finished with a 10-hit complete game as the Cubs swept the doubleheader. The Cubs turned three double plays behind him. Jose Cardenal led off with a homer and drove in three runs, all off losing pitcher Steve Rogers, who walked five men in four innings.
Pittsburgh 4, Atlanta 2: Bob Moose threw a four-hitter for the Pirates -- two of the hit solo homers by Darrell Evans -- and Richie Zisk hit a two-run double in a three-run third off Phil Niekro. Moose struck out seven and walked one. Richie Hebner hit a solo homer for Pittsburgh.
St. Louis 4, New York 3: Reggie Cleveland allowed two runs in eight innings, and Diego Segui entered to get the final out with the tying run on third. Lou Brock drove in Mike Tyson twice. Jon Matlack took the loss.
Philadelphia 9, Houston 7: Ken Brett hit better than he pitched, but he pitched well enough to come away with the win. Brett was 3-for4 at the plate with a triple and three RBIs. He also worked 7.2 innings, allowing six runs on nine hits and four walks. Mike Schmidt homered off losing pitcher Dave Roberts and scored four times. Terry Harmon drove in two runs.
