Pittsburgh 3, Montreal 2: Nelson Briles allowed one earned run in eight six-hit innings. The Pirates got all three of their runs from the bottom of the order. Steve Renko took the loss, and Dave Giusti picked up the save. Jim Lyttle pinch hit a homer for the Expos.
Chicago 2, New York 1: Milt Pappas worked into the eighth inning for the win, with Dave LaRoche and Bob Locker getting two out apiece to finish the job. Loser Jim McAndrew allowed two runs in five innings.
