John bracket: 2009 Tampa Bay Rays defeat 2009 Minnesota Twins in six games

All or nothing: The Minnesota Twins pitchers threw a pair of shutouts, but surrendered 29 runs in the other four games. Tampa Bay out scored Minnesota for the series 29-12.

Game One: Rays 5, Twins 1: The Rays dinged Twins started Scott Baker for three solo homers (Evan Longoria, Carlos Pena and Pat Burrell) in the first six innings. James Shields allowed two hits and no runs in 6.1 innings for the win. 

Game Two: Twins 2, Rays 0: Nick Blackburn didn't allow a hit until the sixth inning and finished with three safeties allowed in 7.2 innings. Michael Cuddyer doubled in one run and scored the other after bopping a triple. 

Game Three: Rays 4, Twins 3: Minnesota scored three runs in the first, highlighted by a two-run homer by Joe Mauer. But Jeff Niemann shut out the Twins for the next six innings and wound up with the win as the Rays scored two in the third and two in the seventh. Jesse Crain, who walked the two men he faced in the seventh, took the loss.

Game Four: Twins 2, Rays 0: Francisco Lirano granted three walks and four hits in six innings but did not allow a run, while Cuddyer hit a two-run homer off David Price in the fourth inning. Matt Guerrier, Crain and Joe Nathan each worked a hitless inning to finish the whitewash.

Game Five: Rays 10, Twins 2: Mauer gave the Twins a two-run lead with a firs-tinning homer, but the Rays scored one in the bottom of the first, four in the second, three in the third and another in the fourth. Tampa Bay got homers from Burrell, Longoria and Ben Zobrist. Shields allowed six hits in his complete game, half of them in the first inning.

Game Six: Rays 10, Twins 3: Minnesota again scored first, but the Rays scored in five of the final six frames. Orlando Cabrera, the Minnesota shortstop, committed three errors resulting five unearned runs, but teh Rays also garnered 14 hits. 

Projected rotation: Shields, Niemann, Garza, Price, (Shields), (Niemann), (Garza). Tampa Bay's bullpen will be fully available for the opening of the second round.
