Baltimore held the Braves to just two extra-base hits in the series, but Boston did get an impressive start from a late-career Hall of Famer for its win.
Game One: Orioles 2, Braves 1: Steve Barber out dueled Jesse Barnes in the opener. Brooks Robinson and Jerry Adair each drove in a run for Baltimore, and Barber and two relievers scattered nine hits.
Game Two: Orioles 5, Braves 0: Chuck Estrada threw a five-hitter for the win. Robinson drove in three more runs with a homer and double, and Whitey Herzog scored twice.
Game Three: Orioles 5, Braves 3: Gus Triandros homered and doubled, scored twice and drove in two. Milt Pappas carried a three-hitter into the eighth inning, but walked three men in that frame, all of whom scored to make the score close.
Game Four: Braves 4, Orioles 0: Rube Marquard no-hit the Orioles through seven innings, but departed after a leadoff single by Hank Foiles in the eighth. Tim McNamara and Red Lucas finished off the two-hit shutout. Ed Sperber hit a three-run homer in the third inning off loser Jack Fisher.
Game Five: Orioles 9. Braves 2: Boston led 2-1 after six innings, but the Birds plated six runs in the seventh, with Herzog and Robinson hitting back-to-back doubles in the frame. Every Baltimore starter either scored or drove in a run.
Projected rotation: Barber-Estrada-Pappas-Fisher-(Barber)-(Estrada)-(Pappas). Considering replaing Jack Fisher in the rotation with Hal Brown on Billy Hoeft..
