Ian Happ drove in seven runs with just 12 trips to the plate and Kyle Hendricks baffled the Tribe lineup in two dominant starts. Cleveland scored 27 runs in the series but 15 came in one game.
Game One: Cubs 4, Indians 2: Albert Amora Jr. homered, doubled and scored twice, and Yu Darvish held Cleveland to four hits in seven innings.
Game Two: Cubs 5, Indians 1: Hendricks allowed one run on five hits in six innings, while Willson Contreras and Addison Russell homered off Gary Bell.
Game Three: Indians 4, Cubs 3: Jason Hayward clubbed a three-run homer in the second off Jim Perry, but Perry and two relievers allowed no other runs, and Cleveland evened the score in the fifth on a two-run double by Tito Francona. Vic Power scored twice for the Tribe, and Perry scored one of the runs after drawing a walk.
Game Four: Indians 15, Cubs 5: Woody Held, John Romano and Bubba Phillips all homered for Cleveland, and Held and Willie Kirkland each had two-RBI triples as well. Wynn Hawkins went 8.3 innings for the win, with three of the five runs charged to him coming in the ninth inning. Jose Quintana started for the Cubs and did not retire a man in the third inning.
Game Five: Cubs 6, Indians 5: The Cubs hit two homers in a three-run eighth inning, a solo shot by Contreras and a pinch-hit two-run homer by Happ, to put Chicago ahead to stay in a see-saw game. Rowan Wick got the win with a scoreless eighth but was charged with two runs in the ninth, with Brandon Kintzler getting the final outs with two on with a double play off the bat of Romano.
Game Six: Cubs 7. Indians 0: Hendricks made the uncertain Cubs bullpen irrelevant, going the distance with a three-hit shutout. He faced one batter over the minimum with a pair of double play grounders. Happ homered twice, one a solo shot and the other a grand slam.
Projected rotation: Quintana will give way to Cole Hamels for the second round: Darvish-Lester-Hamels-Hendricks-(Darvish)-(Lester)-(Hamels). Another roster change: replacing Ben Zobrist with Nick Castellanos.
