One strong arm -- Dazzy Vance -- and one weak arm -- Eddie "Glass Arm" Brown -- lifted the Dodgers to a narrow series win.
The opener in Brooklyn went to the Robins as Vance didn't allow a baserunner until the fourth and ended up with a six-hitter and eight strikeouts. The Robins scored a pair of runs in the first inning off Jacob deGrom, who wild-pitched one run in and walked in the other.
The Mets evened the series by plated three unearned runs in the seventh inning off Burleigh Grimes. Brandon Nimmo doubled home two runs to put the Mets ahead. Seth Lugo went six innings for the win, and four relievers split up the final three frames for the Mets.
The series moved to Citi Field in Queens for Game Three. The Mets roughed up Dutch Ruether for five runs in five innings, bopping three doubles and a pair of triples in the process. Brown hit a pair of homers for the Robins, one of which drove winner Robert Gsellman from the mound in the sixth inning.
Vance threw another complete game to even the series in Game Four, this one a five-hitter. The Robins battered Matt Harvey for five runs in four-plus innings, including a homer from Brown.
The Mets took Game Five behind deGrom, who allowed four hits and one run in eight innings. Wimer Flores broke a 1-1 deadlock in the bottom of the eighth with a grand slam off Grimes.
The series returned to 1924 and Ebbets Field for Game Six. Rube Ehrhardt dueled with Lugo and the Mets bullpen for nine innings. The Robins led 2-1 going into the eighth, with Brown hitting his fourth homer of the series, but Brown's error allowed Yoenis Cespedes to score the tying run. Bill Doak relieved in the 10th and picked up the win when Andy High singled home Milt Stock in the bottom of the inning.
Vance overpowered the Mets again in Game Seven, tossing his third complete game of the series -- four hits, 10 strikeouts. Tommy Griffith hit a base-loaded triple for the home team and drove in two more with a single and Zach Wheat scored three times as the Robins routed Gsellman and five relievers.
Player of the Series: Dazzy Vance
Player availability: Ehrhardt cannot pitch until Game Three.
Projected rotation: Grimes-Doak-Vance-Grimes-(Ruether or Ehrhardt)-(Vance)-(Grimes)
