It was a four-game sweep for Houston, but all four games were competitive.

The Rangers jumped out to an early lead in the opener in Minute Maid Park as Jeff Burroughs hit a two-run homer in the first off Justin Verlander. The Astros tied it in the fourth on a Yuri Gurriel homer, but Alex Johnson put the Rangers back in front with a solo homer inthe sixth. Jim Bibby held the lead until, with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, he walked Josh Reddick and Robinson Chirinos followed with a walk-off homer.

Houston needed no such dramatics in Game Two. Gurriel and Chirions each homered again and Gurriel had a second RBI with an eighth-inning single. Gerrit Cole took a perfect game into the seventh inning, when Toby Harrah singled. Bill Sudakis homered in the eighth off Ryan Pressly.

The series shifted to 1973's Arlington Stadium, and the Astros outslugged the home team in Game Three. Neither starter, Wade Miley for Houston and Sonny Siebert for Texas, got through the fourth inning. The Astros took the lead for good in the seventh on Carlos Correa's two-run homer. Will Harris was given credit for the win for a scoreless eighth inning.

Houston wrapped up the series behing Aaron Sanchez (5.3 innings) and Brad Peacock (3.6 innings.) David Clyde went six innings for Texas, allowing three runs on four hits and a walk in the third but  holding the Astros to two hits in his other five innings of work.
