Washington scored 30 runs in the six games while allowing 15, and its bullpen allowed one unearned run in 12 innings.
The Senators needed no bullpen in the first game, played in Washington. Walter Johnson threw a four-hitter, allowing a homer to Roy Sievers in the fifth and an unearned tally in the ninth. Washington had a four-run lead before the White Sox had base runner. Ossie Bluege drove in four runs, two on a triple in the seventh. Goose Goslin scored three times, and Joe Judge went 4-for-4.
Early Wynn evened the series with a four-hit shutout in Game Two. He walked two and fanned three. Chicago racked George Mogridge for five runs on nine hits in three innings. Luis Aparico doubled twice, scored twice and went 4-for-5. Sievers went 3-for-5 with two runs scored.
The series shifted to 1961 and Comiskey Park. Tom Zachary blanked the Sox for eight innings, and Fred Marberry completed the shutout in Game Three. Judge singled, stole a base, scored a run and drove in a run for the Senators.
Game Four was an utter rout. Johnson allowed one earned run (and two unearned) in six innings before giving way to Slim McGrew and Paul Zahniser. Judge hit a pair of homers and drove in eight runs. He also had two singles and a double and scored three times. Earl McNeely was 5-for-6 with four runs scored. Johnson drove in three runs himself.
Bluege hit a two-run homer off Ray Herbert in the top of the eighth to put Washington up for good in Game Five. Marberry started for Washington and got the win with seven innings of three-run, six-hit ball; By Speece allowed one single in two innings but faced the minimum of six hitters for the save that wrapped up the series. Bluege was 3-for-4 and Nemo Leibold scored twice for Washington.
