The Cubs scored three runs off a weary Bob Moose in the eighth inning, with pinch-hitter Rico Carty getting a two-run double and Gene Hiser, playing center in the absence of Rick Monday, drove in the other run with a single. Willie Stargell and Richie Zisk each hit solo homers for the Pirates on a raw day at Wrigley Field. Dave LaRoche picked up the win despite allowing the Zisk homer and Bob Locker got the save.
Atlanta 12, Montreal 3
Mike Lum drove in five runs on three singles and a homer to lead the rout. Dusty Baker and Hank Aaron also homered for the Braves. Carl Morton allowed one run in 6.2 innings for the win. Mike Torrez took the loss.
