The 1973 Cleveland Indians outhomered their 2019 counterparts in the series but could do little else at the plate.

Game One, in 2019's Progressive Field, featured a pair of solo homers by Oscar Gamble and a five-hitter by Gaylord Perry. Gamble, who also walked, scored scored all three runs for the 1973 squad; Francisco Lindor's RBI triple in the fifth inning was the last hit Perry allowed in the contest.

Shane Bieber retired the first 14 hitters he faced in Game Two. John Ellis's single was the only baserunner the 2019 ace allowed in eight innings. Roberto Perez hit a two-run homer in the eighth to open up the final margin.

The series shifted to 1973 and the "Mistake by the Lake," Municipal Stadium, and Dick Bosman held the 2019 Tribe to one unearned run on two hits in seven innings. Ray Lamb and Tom Hilgendorf split the final two innings. Gamble hit another solo homer for the 1973 Indians.

The 2019 edition evened the series in Game 4 by thumping Perry for six runs on 10 hits, including a pair of homers from Jose Ramirez and Leonys Martin. Carlos Santana had a two-run double in the seventh to seal the deal. Zach Plesac allowed runs in the first and second innings but shut out the 1973 team in the next four frames.

The 2019 squad took its first lead of the series in Game Five, driving Dick Tidrow off the mound with a five-run outburst in the fourth inning. Lindor followed Perez' two-run single with a three-run homer in that inning. Tommy Smith tied it in the bottom of the sixth with a three-run homer off Trevor Bauer, but Santana and Tyler Naquin each doubled in a three-run top of the seventh, and four Cleveland relievers split up the final three innings with one run allowed.

The series reverted to 2019 for Game Six, and Bieber again threw shutout ball, this time for 7.1 innings. He retired the first 13 men and allowed three hits in all. Bosman, on short rest, allowed a leadoff homer to Lindor, who hit a second solo homered in the seventh off Tom Timmermann, who pitched most of the game for the 1973 team.

Player availablity: Jason Kipnis sustained an injury in the finale and cannot play at all in the second round. He will be available in the third round if the 2019 Indians advance.

Projected rotation: Bauer-Plutko-Bieber-Civale-(Bauer)-(Plutko)-(Bieber)
