The Athletics hammered 12 homers in the four games.
Game One, in the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum, was the closest thing the series offered to a pitchers duel. Dan Haren went the distance for Arizona, giving up four runs on six hits and taking the loss. Mark Canha's two-run homer in the fifth ended the scoring for both teams. Winner Mike Fiers and two relievers allowed just one hit after the second inning.
The A's prevailed in a high-scoring second game with the help of a five-run sixth inning Marcus Semien and Canha opened the inning with doubles, and the A's added three walks, a pair of singles and an Arizona error to send 12 ment to the plate. Matt Olson had four hits for the A's, including a two-run homer in the second to open the scoring, and scored three runs. Justin Upton drove in three runs for the Diamondbacks.
The series moved to Arizona for Game Three. Josh Phegley hit a three-run homer in the top of the 10th off Blaine Boyer to break a 4-4 tie. He drove in a run earlier with a ground out. Upton went 4-for-4 with a homer, a double and two walks for Arizona.
The A's left little doubt about Game Four, with a run in the first, four in the second and three more in the third. Matt Chapman and Jurickson Profar each hit a pair of homers, and Semien scored five runs.
Player availability: All Oakland players will be ready for the second round
