Clarissa trailed 3-0 before erupting for four runs in the fourth inning. Pud Galvin went the distance for his fourth victory, scattering eight hits and retiring the final nine men he faced. Losing pitcher Nolan Ryan struck out 10 in eight innings but also walked five. Joe Kelley had a pair of sac flies.

Fishermen 3, Novelists 2 (12 innings)

Louis Santop led off the bottom of the 12th with a triple and came in on Pop Lloyd's base hit to the gap to end it. Frank Wickware got the win with two scoreless innings of relief, and Old Hoss Radbourne, working his fourth inning out of the pen, took the loss. Bid McPhee homered for Browerville and Jesse Burkett had four singles. Lloyd had three hits, stole a base and scored the game's first run..
