Rico Petrocelli hit a three-run homer off Al Spalding in the 11th and Hewitt's bullpen did just enough to keep the lead in bottom of the inning. .Dan McGinn, who retired Billy Hamilton with the bases loaded to end the 10th, got the win despite being charged with two runs in two-thirds of an inning (one of those runs unearned).

Candy Jim Taylor hit a three-run homer and Pop Lloyd doubled in two runs in Bertha's six-run fifth inning. John Donaldson went the distance as the Fishermen won their seventh consecutive game. He allowed eight hits and struck out eight.
