Clarissa peppered three Bertha starters for 16 hits and benefited from three errors to boot. Roger Connor drove in three runs with a pair of doubles, Hugh Duffy had a two-run triple and three of the Crimsons scored a pair of runs (Duffy, Dan Brouthers and George Davis). Cy Young was charged with all five runs, four earned, in 8.2 innings, with Candy Cummings getting the final out after allowing a pair of inherited runners to score...

Willie Stargell drove in all three runs for Long Prairie with a homer and double, and Tom Seaver allowed two runs on seven hits in 8.2 innings for his sixth win. John Hiller entered with the tying run on base to retire pinch-hitter Roberto Clemente for the final out. Bill Russell turned an outstanding double play with the bases loaded to end the fifth inning for the Agnews.
