Willie Keeler scored two runs and drove in the other two for Clarissa, which turned three double plays behind Pud Galvin and plated two runs in the top of the ninth for the win. Losing pitcher Bob Gibson allowed four runs, two earned. Sal Bando had a two-run homer in the seventh that briefly gave the last-place Apollos the lead.. .

Browerville worked Nolan Ryan for six runs on 12 hits and three walks in six-plus innings to back Mickey Welch. Welch went the distance, allowing a pair of homers good for three runs. Jimmy Collins had a two-run triple, and Ed Delahanty also drove in two runs with a single and two doubles. The Novelists stole five bases but were caught twice..
