The opener was scoreless through seven innings. In the top of the eighth, the visitors from Lincoln Park strung together three one-out singles to take the lead, But Bill Hollard couldn't record an out in the bottom of the inning, and reliever Bill Drake was victimized by a Bonnie Serrell error as the Flashes scored five runs. Pinch-hitter Jimmy O'Connell's two-run single put Fordham in front.
Light-hitting infielder Dick Seay bombed Art Nehf for a pair of homers in the second game to power the Black Caps' rout. Seay scored three runs and drove in three. Lincoln Park racked up 15 hits for the game.
The Flashes outslugged the Black Caps in the series finale. Ross Youngs, Freddie Lindstrom, Hnk Gowdy and Dave Bancroft each scored two runs, and every starter for the Flashes except pitcher Hugh McQuillan, scored at least one, Youngs, Lindstrom, Joe Medwick, Chick Hafey and George Kelly each had a pair of RBIs. The Black Caps scored five runs in the fifth inning to take a 5-4 lead, but reliever Verdell Mathis gave up a two-run homer to Kelly in the bottom of the inning and didn't record an out in the sixth, Jack Bentley worked the final three innings, allowing three runs, for the save.
Pitcher availability: Bentley should sit at least one game for Fordham. For the Black Caps, Tom Williams (four inning start) and Streeter should sit two games to relieve, three to start; Holland one game to relieve, two to start. Mathis and Hilton Smith should be regarded as having pitched two innings in the finale.. Webster McDonald pitched one inning.
Projected starters: Flashes -- Grimes-Haines-Barnes-Nehf-Grimes-Haines-McQuillan. Black Caps -- Cockrell-Currie-??? (Mathis, Holland, Drake).
