Outs didn't come easily in the bandbox ballpark that was Los Angeles' Wrigley Field. Denny McLain got only three outs, giving up six runs on a single, three doubles and a Buck Ewing homer, and Roger Connor's homer in the third gave Clarissa a 7-3 lead. But the Apollos kept chipping away at Kid Nichols, with Henry Aaron tying it with a sixth inning homer and Jim Wynn putting them ahead with a homer in the seventh, But that ended the scoring for Hewitt. Monte Ward's single in the seventh evened the score, and Connor ended it with a two-out, three-run homer off John Gelnar, the sixth pitcher of the game for the Apollos.

Fishermen 8, Novelists 6
Bertha put up three runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to saddle Old Hoss Radbourn with his first loss of the season. Browerville scored five in the ninth to make the final score respectable and force Jose Mendez in to relieve John Donaldson. Pete Hill and Home Run Johnson each drove in two runs for the Fishermen, and Sam Thompson drove in two for the Novelists.
