Crimsons 11, Agnews 7

Kid Nichols gave up five runs in the first two innings but then held the Agnews to two runs the rest of the way. King Kelly and Buck Ewing combined to go 7-for-8 with four runs and four RBIs. Hugh Duffy hit a pair of doubles, Roger Conner tripled and doubled and Joe Kelley hit his fourth homer.

Apollos 2, Novelists 1

Willie McCovey hit a two-run homer in the first, and Bob Gibson made those runs stand up with a seven-hit complete game. Gubson walked one and struck out seven. Losing pitcher Mickey Welch also went the distance, eight innings in his case. He allowed four hits in the first but only a walk the rest of the way, retiring the final 17 men he faced. Rico Petrocelli is injured and will miss Day 10.
