Series 6: Orators sweep Flashes

Jim O'Rourke hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the fourth inning and added an RBI single in the ninth as Ortonville held off Fordham in the series opener. Heinie Manush was 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Don Sutton threw six shutout innings but couldn't get an out in the seventh, and reliever Ray Kolb couldn't protect the lead.

The Orators jumped on Burleigh Grimes for two runs in the first inning of Game Two and three more in the second. Billy Herman and Dan Brouthers hit back-to-back triples in the second inning. Herman finished the game 3-for-5 with two doubles and a triple; he scored twice and drove in a pair. Jim Bottomley hit solo homers in the seventh and eighth innings for the Flashes. Ferguson Jenkins went eight innings for the win, allowing three runs on seven hits with eight strikeouts.

Chick Hafey's two-run homer in the sixth inning of the finale gave the Flashes a 3-2 lead, and Freddie Lindstrom hit a solo shot in the eighth to make it 4-2. But O'Rourke hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth off Jesse Haines to tie the score. Richie Ashburn led off the bottom of the ninth with a single. He moved to second on Herman's groundout and scored on Brouthers' base hit for the walk off and the sweep.

Pitcher availability: Relievers Bill Bayne, Elam Vangilder (Orators) and Mule Watson (Flashes) pitched an inning or less in Game Three. All other relievers are fully rested.

Projected starters: For the Orators, Wingard-Sutton-Jenkins-Shocker-Davis. For the Flashes, McQuillan-Barnes-Grimes-Haines-Nehf.
