Raymond fell behind 2-0 in the first game but tied it in the third on Joe Sewell's two-run double. The Orioles got a two-run home from Elrod Hendricks to take a 4-3 lead in the top of the sixth, but the Rams responded with seven runs in the home half of the inning. Hack Wilson had the three-run home in the outburst, and Earle Combs drove in a pair with a base hit. Ray Schalk and Combs each had a pair of runs for the winners.
Marcelino Lopez got a rare start in the second and final game of the series for Baltimore, and the lefty threw three scoreless inning before yielding three runs in the fourth, Jim Hardin relieved with three scoreless innings. Meanwhile Red Ruffing was stifling the Baltimore bats, allowing just a solo homer to Frank Robinson through eight innings. The Rams got homers from Sewell and Wilson in a three-run eighth off Pete Richert, and those runs proved vital as the Orioles scored four in the ninth off Ruffing and Hooks Dauss. Brooks Robinson clubbed a three run homer in the uprising. But Dauss fanned Paul Blair with two on and two out to end the contest.
Pitcher availability: For the Orioles, Lopez and Hardin are out for the next three games. Dauss and Richert each pitched one inning; if either pitches in their team's next game, they should sit a game for each inning.
Projected rotations: For the Rams, Holloway-Whitehill-Perry-Ruffing-Collins. For the Orioles, Cuellar-McNally-Palmer-Phoebus-Cuellar.
