The Kennedys climbed back over the .500 mark and knocked Hilldale into the cellar of Division B in the process.
Steve Carlton dominated Game One, allowing just two hits in eight innings and retiring 12 of the first 13 men he faced. Rollie Fingers worked the ninth and allowed a pair of solo shots.
George Brett hit a pair of homers, good for four runs. Hank Aaron drove in two more for the Kennedys.
Bob Gibson earned his fifth win in the second game, falling one out shy of a complete game. Brett hit another homer and drove in three more runs. Bill Byrd went the distance for Hilldale; four of the runs off him were unearned.
Brett was 5-for-9 the series with three homers, seven RBIs and four runs scored.
George Brett had a big series for the Kennedys, with three home runs and seven RBIs.
