Nolan Ryan fanned 10 Garfield batters in eight innings of nine-hit ball in the opener. Mickey Mantle and Mick Schmidt each hit two-run homers in the fourth inning off Mickey Welch to supply all the offense Ryan needed or received.
Ed Walsh wrapped up the game by striking out Sam Thompson and Ed Delahanty with the tying runs in scoring position.
The Obamas' Kid Nichols went the distance in the nightcap despite allowing 11 hits and solo runs in four stright innings. Schmidt and Billy Hamilton each scored three runs for the Obamas.
