Frank Duncan, hitting under .100 entering the game, singled home Dick Lundy in the top of the ninth with the go-ahead run. Roosevelt Davis relieved after Cannonball Redding walked the first two men in the bottom of the ninth and got out of the jam with two ground balls. Redding did not allow a runner for the first four innings and gave up five hits in eight-plus innings. It was just the second loss of the season for Herons ace Max Manning. The Walleyes lead he Herons by two games; each team has three left to play.

Buck O'Neil, Buck Leonard and Martin Dihigo each drove in two runs to power the Tourists to victory. Dizzy Dismukes faced just nine hitters for a three-inning save.
