Clarissa banged out 20 hits and batted around twice to rout Hewitt. Pud Galvin picked up his sixth win with a seven-hit complete game. Monte Ward drove in four runs, three on a bases loaded triple in the sixth, an inning in which the Crimsons hit for the cycle. Joe Kelley drove in three runs, and everybody in the Clarissa lineup either scored or drove in a run.

Bobby Bonds homered in the bottom of the ninth to beat Mickey Welch and drop Browerville into a tie for the league lead with the idle Bertha Fishermen. Nolan Ryan went the distance for his first win; teh Express allowed five hits and walked six with seven strikeouts.
