Game One was a tight, 1-1 affair until the seventh inning, when the Teddys strung six straight hits together, starting with an implausible home run by Eddie Collins.

Rube Waddell tossed a five-hitter with two walks, one hit batter and four strikeouts. His mound opponent, Pud Galvin, walked seven men in his seven innings, only one of whom scored.

Game Two seemed well in hand for the Teddys from the start, as Ty Cobb led off a three-run first a home run. But Cobb dropped a fly ball in the third to let the Garfields within a run, and the Teddys had difficulty denting the plate again against Tim Keefe.

Jesse Burkett had three RBI hits for the Garfields. Monte Ward drove home the decisive runs in the seventh. Nap Lajoie had three doubles of the Teddys in a 4-for-4 game.
