The previously punchless X-Giants had an astounding first game. They had scored 27 runs in the first four series (10 games) combined; they scored 29 in their 11th game.
The X-Giants batted around in each of the first four innings.
They scored four runs in the first off Ray Brown, highlighted by Rap Dixon's three-run homer.
They scored five more in the second, all off Brown, who did not retire a batter in the frame.
They scored seven runs in the third off Frank Wickware, with Double Duty Radcliffe — getting his first start of the season behind the plate — cranking a grand slam.
They further pummeled Wickware for seven more runs in the fourth inning,
After taking a few innings off, they clanged William Bell for four more runs in the ninth, with Rube Foster hitting a three-run dinger.
Pop Lloyd went 6-for-7 with four runs scored. Dixon was 4-for-6 with a homer and triple, scored five times and drove in seven. Ben Taylor was 5-for-5 with two walks, three runs and four RBIs. Radcliffe had five RBIs. Everybody in the X-Giants lineup scored at least twice except Foster.
Lost in the flurry of runs was a fine pitching performance by Foster, who allowed seven hits , walked two and fanned 11.
John Donaldson was almost as impressive in Game 2 for the X-Giants. He threw an eight-hitter and pitched out of two early jams. Biz Mackey drove in two runs for the X-Giants.
The third game belonged to Satchel Paige and Chino Smith for seven innings. Smith hit a two-run homer in the first off Martin Dihigo and triggered the three-run sixth with a lead-off double. Paige allowed just four harmless singles through seven but weakened in the eighth. Leroy Matlock entered to get Pete Hill and Lloyd; William Bell struggled through the ninth to get the save.
