Joe Kelley went 4-for-4 out of the cleanup slot with two runs and two RBIs, including a solo homer. Cy Young went the distance for the win, scattering 10 hits. Roger Conner tripled in a run and scored another for Clarissa, while Rod Carew drove in a pair with his fifth inning three-bagger. Fergie Jenkins took the loss.

Novelists 6. Agnews 1

Browerville scored five runs in the first two innings off Nolan Ryan, and Mickey Welch made them stand up. Welch granted seven hits in his complete game win, with one walk and five strikeouts. Ed Delahanty drove in runs in both the first and second innings with singles. Ryan allowed five hits and two walks in the first two innings, and the Novelists were further helped by errors from Joe Morgan and Carl Yastzremski. Ryan went 7.2 innings with nine strikeouts and three walks. Two of the six runs he allowed were unearned.

Pitcher availability notes:

Apollos: McDowell may work Day 5 with penalty, Day 6 without penalty. McLain is eligible to start Day 6, Jenkins on Day 8. Projected starters: Gibson on Day 5, McDowell on Day 6, McLain on Day 7. Aaron is injured and out until Day 6.

Agnews: Blyleven is eligible to start on Day 6, which is an off day. Seaver is eligible to start on Day 7. Projected starters:Perry Day 5, off Day 6, Blyleven Day 7, Seaver Day 8

Crimsons: Galvin eligible  for Game 6, Young for Game 7. Projected starters: Nicols Game 5 ,Galvin Game 6, off Game 7, Young Game 8
