Joe Morgan, the first batter of the season for Long Prairie, homered off Denny McLain. That was all the runs Bert Blyleven got or needed; he spun a four-hit shutout with five strikeouts and no walks, although he did hit two batters.

 

Novelists 15, Fishermen 4

Browerville knocked out 18 hits, five for extra bases, and plated 12 runs in one three-inning stretch. Old Hoss Radbourn went the distance, allowing three of Bertha's four runs in the final two frames. Sam Thompson went 4-for-4 with two doubles, a triple and a walk, scoring four times and driving in three.

Apollos: Gibson eligible Day 5. McDowell may work Day 5 with penalty, Day 6 without penalty. McLain is eligible to start Day 6. Projected starters:Jenkins Day 4, Gibson Day 5.either McDowell or McLain on Day 6, with the other on Day 7.
