Luis Aparicio singled home pinch runner Cleon Jones for the walk-off win. Jones was running for Willie McCovey, who led off the inning with a double off Rube Foster, who was in his third inning of relief.McCovey hit a two-run homer in the first off Dizzy Dismukes, who allowed two more runs in the second but settled in to give the Fishermen nine innings. Dick Kelley threw three scoreless frames for the win. Ben Taylor tripled and homered for Bertha, and Louis Santop also homered.
Novelists 8, Agnews 6 (10 innings)
Sam Thompson led off the top of the 10th with a triple off Mike Caldwell to ignite a two-run inning for Browerville, and Al Spalding threw a perfect frame in the bottom of the inning against the heart of the Long Prairie lineup to nail down the win. The Agnews tied the game in the eighth with a three-run rally that began with a Joe Morgan leadoff homer and was capped by Ted Simmons' two-run triple. Jimmy Collins drove in two runs for the Novelists, and Billy Hamilton went 3-for-3 with two walks, a stolen base and a run scored. .
