The Herons scored four runs in the seventh and eighth innings to overtake the Loons in the season opener, played in Greenlee Field.

Turkey Stearnes homered twice for the Loons off John Donaldson. The first came leading off the second inning, and the second was a two-run shot in the fourth. Webster McDonald took a 4-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh, when Louis Santop homered to open the inning. One out later, Alec Radcliff booted a grounder, Ghost Marcelle doubled to send Bonnie Serrell to third, and Chaney White hit a sac fly to make it a 4-3 game.

Phil Cockrell relieved McDonald to open the bottom of the eighth, and promptly surrendered base hits to Oscar Charleston, Rap Dixon and Heavy Johnson. After a double play, Red Parnell singled home Dixon with the go-ahead run.

Donaldson went the distance, allowing three earned runs on six hits.
