Day 22 recaps
Baltimore 2, NY Giants 1:
The Elites waited until there were two outs in the ninth to start their two-run rally. Biz Mackey -- who had hit into three double plays -- and Judy Johnson walked. Dick Lundy singled past Giants shortstop Travis Jackson to bring in the tying run, and pinch-hitter Hurley McNair singled home Johnson for the go-ahead tally. Winning pitcher Tom Williams, in his first appearance for the Elites, struck out 10 in eight innings.
Brooklyn 1, NY Yankees 0: Dazzy Vance threw a five-hit shutout, which was barely good enough to outduel Sad Sam Jones, who allowed one unearned run in seven innings. Babe Ruth narrowly missed a game-tying homer in the sixth, settling for a two-out double, but he was stranded at second. Vance himself scored the only run of the game i the fifth, reaching on an error and eventually scoring on Zack Wheat's single.
